This new year means new things for Stuck and Lost. I become obsessed with new people, places, articles, songs, pictures of Drake fairly frequently– Have I mentioned I am an impressionable 18-year-old girl who spends too much time on social media? So I figured that, if you actually take the time to read my blog, you might slightly enjoy some of the things I am overly obsessed with. So I decided to pick random stuff I really loved for every day of the month.
This January was the most relaxing month possibly since my first day of kindergarten. Unlike in years past, had no school, no homework, and no summer work. I didn’t have any real responsibilities. Because of this I also had a lot of free time with my computer to read lots of articles and listen to new music, but I’m hoping to continue with this trend. I’m tired of sitting on my computer or phone and just staring at my news feed or checking to see if anyone has updated their snapchat stories every five minutes. Using technology isn’t a bad thing, but the way I was using it was. Now I actually read and absorb knowledge from the internet, rather than just stare at a screen, hoping something cool pops up. But anyway, here are 31 things I love for the 31 days of January 2015!
I have known this song and have been listening to Parachute for a few years, but I decided to be as cool as possible and listen to this song on New Years Day on the train home from NYC. I listened to it, thought about life and 2014 and 2015, and pretended to be in a movie as I looked out the window and pondered about what was next for my character.
The wrong kind of guy to fall in love with is the guy who will let go of the steering wheel as a joke,” she explained. “A guy who finds it amusing to make you uncomfortable, which is more common that you’d think, is someone you want to avoid.
-Anna Kendrick in the February issue of Fashion magazine, on dating
3. Emma Stone’s red carpet looks this year
-I’m probably never going to get my life together enough to do something this cool, but that doesn’t give me the right to deprive anyone else of it!
-I read about this on Into the Gloss and picked up on an impromptu visit to Target, and it changed the whole game. I’m not beauty guru, so I don’t actually know the rules of the game or even how to play, but I’m pretty sure this counts as a score. My skin is so soft and hydrated, which is something I always have issues with during the winter months. And you can buy it at the drugstore.
7. Jenny Slate is my hero for many reasons: Parks and Rec, Marcel the Shell, her twitter account, every interview she has done ever, and now her acceptance speech for her Critics’ Choice Best Actress in Comedy award for her role in Obvious Child (something else I loved).
9. When Drake posted this and it was confirmed that we are supposed to be together
-There’s a reason I put this after Drake’s Instagram 😉
11. The Virgin Suicides
-I finally watched it on Netflix. I know I’m late, just let me be obsessed with it anyway.
Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs
– Not trying to sound super pretentious by starting this all with an art exhibit, but this was amazing. I visited the MoMA by myself on an extra chilly day (like 9 degrees chilly), and was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed this. Visit this exhibit and you’ll never look at a pair of scissors and construction paper the same way again. My favorite part was The Swimming Pool, which Matisse actually put on the walls of his dining room. The museum used the same dimensions so that the cut-outs were displayed exactly how Matisse intended them to be, and did a lot of repairs on the work. I walked into the room and tried to imagine sitting at a table and eating dinner while being surrounded by a masterpiece on all sides. The exhibit was extended to February 10th, so go before it’s too late!
This is So Good (get it?!)
– Alexa Chung’s guide to getting dressed in her book is genius
For whatever reason, I have listened to so much hip hop since I became a college student. Not sure if I’m going through a phase or not, but this album completes me right now. My personal favorite is Wet Dreamz. I apologize in advance that my favorite may be a song with a uniquely inappropriate subject matter.
19. Avocado Toast
-Since I was home for a lot of January, I wasn’t forced to go outside every time I wanted food! My kitchen provided me with unlimited access to nutritious foods that you simply can’t get, or get in the same way, in a college dining hall. My mom purchased some avocados, and my interest in avocado toast commenced. Our first try was simply toast with the mashed avocado (mixed with lemon juice, salt, and pepper) and topped with sliced tomatoes. I then tried the avocado toast from vegan food vendor Chickpea & Olive at the Brooklyn Flea () and, even though it was good, it almost tasted exactly like the toast my mom and I spontaneously put together. I tried to take a cute Instagram anyway.
The next week, I gave the avocado toast concept another whirl. This time, unfortunately, we did not have tomatoes. Therefore, I found another avocado toast recipe with ingredients we did have. Mashed avocado (this time I added a drop of olive oil), crumbled goat cheese, and red pepper flakes. I am not a chef by any means, but this was a masterpiece.
I hope to continue my search for delicious NYC avocado toast, and I will be sure to include them in my favorite things of February.
20. Excuse my language, but why the fuck does this exist?
Apparently it costs a low price of $1,150 to tell everyone that you’re annoying.
21. Broad City
If you don’t watch this show, I am judging you. It is back for its second season, and this time they even went to NYU, pretended to be RAs, and smoked out a room. Watch it.
22. Blanket Scarves
On those days when it’s so cold that you consider going outside with a blanket wrapped around you, try something a little more socially acceptable! I not only love how warm these scarves are, but I also love the look they give you. I instantly feel more put together whenever I put mine over a sweater. I bought my scarf from Brandy Melville, but Zara and Asos sell nice ones as well!
23. The Museum of Sex
If you just happen to be in the mood to have a reeeeeally weird day, go here! NYC has some pretty weird places, but I can honestly say that I think this is the only place where you will see porn playing on the wall, play in a boob bouncy house (see pic below), observe how different animals have sex, be confronted with some very realistic looking sex dolls, and shop in a gift shop that sells items you didn’t know could be legally sold out in the open.
25. Topshop Boots
I am obsessed with these boots. I really like to only wear shoes that are comfortable and I can walk in (shocker, right?), but I realized I can’t wear my Doc Martens to parties. These boots (I’m not positive that these are the exact ones I own, but you get the idea) are incredibly easy to walk in, even when it starts snowing and puddles start freezing as you walk home at 2 AM. They make every outfit look a little more edgy, and give you some more height.
My favorite thing about this movie was that the main character grew up during the same time period that I did. From when the older sister sings “Oops I Did it Again” to annoy her brother, to when he goes off to college, I could actually relate to what he went through in each scene.
27. Girls Season 4
We are only 3 episodes into this season, and I have already re-fallen for the show. The Man Repeller does great recaps of every episode, and they really improve the Girls experience. My only problem is that I have just begun a creative writing class at school, and I can’t help but expect the worst during workshop, remembering how much the entire class hated Hannah’s story. Also Hannah and Adam don’t seem to be talking and it makes me want to cry.
29. Personality Pic?
30. Brooklyn Flea
I am absolutely in love with the Winter Flea, held every Saturday and Sunday on Dean St. There is so much clothing, jewelry, trinkets, and food, I don’t know if I really want to shop anywhere else (But I will…). On my first visit, I purchased a vintage Coach bag from Camel Girl Vintage and two pairs of earrings from Jessica DeCarlo Jewelry.
31. Friends on Netflix
I saved this for last, because this was my true obsession of 2015. Many people have been shocked by the fact that I actually haven’t seen all of the Friends episodes. And I have no clue where I’ve been, because my life has been changed. I don’t remember what life was like before I started watching Friends. I have already make it Season 6 out of the 10 seasons, and I don’t want this journey to end. Also I love Chandler Bing with all my heart.
And February begins……now.
